Just before the lodge you will take the trail toward the west towards Cottonwood Creek.

history channel documentary Just before the lodge you will take the trail toward the west towards Cottonwood Creek. This is thought to be a trail, and albeit simple to take after, is more similar to a course. This segment of the trail is steep and exceptionally rough with a lot of rock slides. The trail has not seen a trail group in decades. When clear of plummeting the little crevasse, the trail swings around toward the north and crosses underneath the edge of Horseshoe Mesa. Inside a couple of minutes the trail swings back west and starts the drop down to Cottonwood Creek. This segment of the trail is anything but difficult to take after, yet because of free rock and rockslides, a troublesome and careful drop. Once on the floor of Cottonwood Canyon, the trail drops into Cottonwood Creek and after that pops out onto a rolling yet brushy trail on the west side of Cottonwood Creek where the majority of the campgrounds are found. Without further ado past the everywhere outdoors zone will be the intersection of the East/West Tonto trail. In spite of the fact that this area of the trail is just 1/2 miles, it will effortlessly take both of you hours to arrange.

Once on the Tonto West trail it is no problems. The trail moves along for 60 minutes or so until you wind up looking down at the Colorado River. The trail conditions are incredible, yet as you circle around the edge of the plateau there are zones of high vertical presentation. It's not a stress, but rather you'll know it's there with Grapevine Canyon around 1000' beneath you and just a couple steps away. You'll swing once more into two or three seepages, one of which has a spring and after that bit by bit slip down to the everywhere outdoors territory of Grapevine Creek.
